What we do

Connecting the Dots offers two options for meaningful conversations about end of life. You may schedule a private, one-on-one session with Dot Mayorga, RN, tailored to your individual needs and held in the privacy of your home or location of your choice. These conversations provide a safe space to ask questions and gain the understanding needed to make important end-of-life decisions.

You may also choose to attend a small-group workshop, either a single six-hour session or two three-hour sessions held one week apart. In this supportive setting, you’ll meet others with similar questions, which can make it easier to discuss concerns and fears.

Workshops are led by Dot Mayorga, RN, a former hospice nurse, and Jo Merrill, a retired LCSW. They take place in a beautiful private home on Broad Creek in St. Michaels, MD, offering a calm, non-threatening environment for thoughtful reflection and meaningful conversation.

The goal of this process is to create a plan that reflects your wishes, along with the legal documents to support your decisions. These documents only take effect if you are no longer able to speak for yourself and can be changed at any time to reflect your wishes.

This process provides peace of mind and spares your loved ones from having to make difficult decisions on your behalf. Your final gift to your family.

Getting to know Dot

Dot Mayorga, RN is a former hospice nurse with 27 years of nursing experience.

Her 10 years of hospice nursing put her at the bedside of those at the end of life. She witnessed first-hand the fears, frustrations, anxiety and the joy, peace and beauty present at the end of life.

The difference between the two scenarios was directly related to the willingness to talk about the hard stuff.

Dot has also had experience in home health, wound care, nursing and rehab and medical surgical nursing. She is able to help clients gain a better understanding of their particular medical issue and help frame questions to ask their provider for better clarification.

Getting to know Jo

Jo Merrill is a retired Clinical Social Worker who is familiar with issues of death and dying.

Having had two marriages end in cancer-related deaths, she offers her first-hand experience in the caretaker and widow roles and shares Dot’s passion for planning ahead.

She illustrated her husband’s book of essays about the dying process, written in his last year of life, “Living into Darkness and Finding Light”.

It’s important to tell your story so that your loved ones know what you want. You get to decide what’s important and ensure that the end of your life reflects how you lived.
